KARVAAN
How might we create solutions to alleviate the social isolation faced by the technologically-disconnected elderly during the pandemic (COVID-19)?
THE CHALLENGE
SUGGESTED SOLUTION
Old-age loneliness was a vital concern long before the outbreak. During the pandemic, lockdown and social distancing are instated for elderly citizens- there has been an alarming rise of the aged feeling isolated, depressed and anxious.
The idea is to set up secure hubs or mobile pods in neighbourhoods and elder care facilities that :
-Help the elderly socialise face to face
-Assist them with technology-related services
-Regain the freedom to hug and hold hands without risk
-Seamlessly arrange telehealth consultations

SUMMARY OF IDEATION & RESEARCH
Respected agencies proposed similar concepts for emergency medical aid, but the idea using cargo containers has criticism. A future project would ideally focus more on material viability and civil engineering. Next steps should include exploring the use of KAWAAN in other medical contexts of autoimmune and infectious diseases.
